ACWORTH, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s golf team claimed both the team and individual titles Tuesday at The Scrappy at Cobblestone, held at Cobblestone Golf Course.
“What a gritty win today at The Scrappy by our team and Shaun (Cook) to keep the trophies in-house,” head coach Bryant Odom said. “Cobblestone played brutally hard with the conditions, and honestly we didn’t have our best stuff from top to bottom. But championship teams find a way, and we did enough to extend the lead and close it out.”
The Owls posted a 7-over-par 291 in Tuesday’s final round to finish with a 54-hole total of 11-over 863, finishing 13 strokes ahead of second-place Georgia State.
Senior Shaun Cook earned his second career individual title, carding a 2-under 69 in the final round to finish at 2-under 211. He was the only player in the field to finish under par. Cook tallied 10 birdies and 36 pars across the tournament, including 12 pars and four birdies in Tuesday’s final round. He played his final eight holes at 1-under.
“I’m especially proud of Shaun,” Odom said. “He charged from behind, stayed patient, and finished like a winner to take it by two. He’s been knocking on the door all year, and there was no way he was letting this one slip.”
Kyle Bachkosky tied for fourth at 3-over 216 after a final-round 73 that included 12 pars and two birdies.
Hunter Gillard fired KSU’s low round of the day with a 1-under 71, posting 13 pars and three birdies. He finished tied for 10th at 9-over 222.
Walker Gantt shot a 79 in the final round to finish tied for 15th at 10-over 223, while Luca Gallingani carded an 81 to tie for 21st at 11-over 224.
Among KSU’s individual competitors, Josh Ledford led the way with a 1-over 72, also tying for 21st at 11-over 224. He was followed by Reed Sweigart (76), who tied for 44th at 15-over 228, and Joshua Todd (80), who tied for 60th.
“We’ll take this weekend to reset and then get ready to finish strong at Steelwood, a place we’ve played well before,” Odom said.
