Pakistani Golfers Ireland held their annual Pakistan Golf Cup at Powerscourt Golf Club in July, raising an impressive €10,000 for St. Laurence's National School in Baldoyle.
The school intends to use the generous funds to purchase much needed resources for the school, primarily focusing on the areas of numeracy to support the new Maths curriculum and literacy.
The event has been held since 2018, but this year, for the first time, organisers incorporated a charitable aspect as a way to give back to the Irish community. Funds were raised through tee box sponsorships and individual donations, highlighting the generous spirit of the Pakistani community in Ireland.
The Pakistan Ireland Business Council played a pivotal role in facilitating the event booking and providing a platform for its success. Several members of the business council generously sponsored the event, further demonstrating their commitment to supporting local initiatives.
Dr. Nasir Awan, Chairman of Pakistani Golfers Ireland, expressed his excitement about the new charitable direction the event has taken, saying "We have made Ireland our home, and have been accepted by the Irish with open hearts. And ‘Cead mile failte’ truly represents the welcoming spirit of the Irish, and we as a group have been actively looking for a way to give back to the Irish community. We often say that ‘Ireland is heaven for golfers’, and appreciate this in no small way.

“This year’s event marks a new chapter for Pakistani Golfers Ireland, one that combines our love of the sport and a commitment to supporting the local community. We are very thankful to our friends and donors for their kind and generous support; and are excited that our vision is finally coming to fruition. We are strongly committed to our cause, and will continue to raise even more funds in future to support charities in need."
Expressing their gratitude to Pakistani Golfers Ireland, Clare Finnerty, Principal of St. Laurence's NS said: “On behalf of our school community, I extend my gratitude to Pakistani Golfers Ireland for their incredible generosity. The funds raised through this year’s Pakistan Golf Cup will make a lasting impact on our students, providing them with new opportunities for learning and resources to excel."
Over 60 golfers participated in the event, including distinguished guests, the former Pakistani Ambassador to Ireland, Mr. Shuja Alam; and the current Pakistani Ambassador, H.E. Ms. Aisha Farooqui, marking another successful year for the event. The tournament is always keenly contested, and this year’s champion was Irfan Hameed, who proudly lifted the trophy sponsored by the Pakistan Embassy in Dublin.
