Marco Penge continued his breakout 2025 season with a new course record to take the first-round lead at the Danish Golf Championship.
The 27-year-old Englishman, who birdied the last hole of the Genesis Championship to secure his DP World Tour card for next season, fired a flawless seven-under-par 64 at Furesø Golf Klub.
His round included an eagle and five birdies, putting him two shots clear of Rasmus Højgaard, Francesco Molinari, Aaron Cockerill, Marc Warren and Jeremy Paul.
Penge, who claimed his maiden title at the Hainan Classic in April, has recorded six top-30 finishes in his last seven starts, including a runner-up at the Genesis Scottish Open. His fine form has lifted him to fifth in the Race to Dubai Rankings.
“Last week I wasn’t good enough and I wanted to correct that here,” he said. “I hit the ball better, made some changes to my equipment and didn’t miss a shot today. You don’t get many days like that.”
Starting on the back nine, Penge made birdies at the 11th, 13th and 15th, before an eagle at the 18th saw him turn in 31. Further birdies at the 3rd and 6th took him to seven under, where he stayed with pars coming home.
Højgaard’s 67 featured eight birdies, a double-bogey and a bogey, while 2018 Open champion Molinari posted his lowest round of the year thanks to a chip-in eagle at the last. Warren, Cockerill and Paul also signed for 66s.
A group at four under includes Danes Lucas Bjerregaard and Jeppe Kristian Andersen, American Gunner Wiebe, Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner, Germany’s Maximilian Rottluff, Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia and Norwegian invitee Mats Ege.
