Petrels Take Sixth in Another National Field

GREENSBORO, NC. Jackson Hiller took 12th overall to lead the No. 4 Oglethorpe men’s golf team to sixth at the Gate City Invitational, which wrapped up the final 18 holes of the 54-hole event on Tuesday. The event featured another national field, with eight of the top 10 teams in NCAA Division III represented.

Hiller made a big move after the first day, which saw a shortened second round completed Tuesday morning. After shooting a 1 over par 73 over the first 18 holes, he improved with a 4 under 68 in the second round and 2 under 70 in the third round. It propelled him up five spots for the T12 finish.

Sam Karman had the next best round for the Stormy Petrels, shooting 69-71-75 to claim T23. His 69 on round one led the team and had him battling just outside the top 10.

Beck Lewis (75-69-73) and Ryan Dunn (77-68-76) rounded out the scoring for Oglethorpe in T38 and T63, respectively.

As a team, the Petrels posted rounds of 288-276-294. They were fourth overall after their middle-round score of 12 under.
