It took J.T. Poston a few extra holes but he got it done at the Memorial Tournament. He also gave Titleist’s new GTS driver line its first PGA Tour win of the season.
But this was not just a “new driver wins” story.

Titleist’s new GTS line gets on the board
Titleist drivers have already had a strong season in winning bags. The GT3 has shown up with players like Cameron Young, Matt Fitzpatrick and J.J. Spaun. Brandt Snedeker also won with a Titleist GT2.
Poston’s win is different because it is the first win for the new GTS line.
Not every Titleist player has moved into GTS yet, which is to be expected. Tour players do not switch because something is new. They switch when it beats what they already have. For Poston, that seems to be working out.
Poston’s Memorial stat line backed up the equipment story. He finished the week at +14.445 in Strokes Gained: Total, including +7.581 tee to green and +6.865 putting. The putter mattered but this was not a win where the driver was just along for the ride.

The old 3-wood
The new driver is the headline but the 3-wood may be the club most golfers notice.
Poston still had a Titleist TS2 3-wood in the bag. That model dates back to 2018 which is old in golf equipment years and really old by PGA Tour standards.
It also says a lot about fairway woods. These clubs are personal. They have to launch right, sit right, hit a window and behave off the turf. When a player finds one that works, it can be very hard to replace.
Another win for the Spider
Poston also gained 6.865 strokes putting for the week so the TaylorMade Spider Tour X Torched deserves some of the credit.
Spider putters have been all over winning bags this season. Spider models were in the winning bags of Scottie Scheffler, Chris Gotterup, Collin Morikawa, Rory McIlroy, Brandt Snedeker, Aaron Rai and now Poston.
