ATLANTA, Ga. —After a stellar week that saw her pick up a co-win at the Joe and Lee Duncan Invitational, Oglethorpe junior Elizabeth Powell has been selected by the Southern Athletic Association as the women’s golf athlete of the week. The award is Powell’s first of her career.
Powell earned the honor after finishing atop the leaderboard in the opening event of the 2024-25 season. She carded back-to-back rounds of 1 under par 71, only three strokes off the Oglethorpe 36-hole scoring record.
Powell’s effort helped the Stormy Petrels start the season off strong as they took fifth overall in the event.
Oglethorpe returns to action Sunday-Monday, Sept. 22-23, in Montgomery, Alabama, for the MCC Intercollegiate. The event will include 36 holes played at Montgomery Country Club.
