Powell Top 20 to Lead Petrels at Jekyll Island

SIMONS ISLAND, Ga.Elizabeth Powell led as one of this weekend’s top 20 players, and the Oglethorpe women’s golf team landed 20th overall amidst several nationally ranked competitors at the King and Prince Golf Course.

Powell (78-71-79) finished 20th overall, a mere five strokes out of the top 10. She posted her best round on Saturday, ending the second day’s action with a 1 under 71 and bogey-free stretch from hole 5 to hole 18. Powell also clinched an eagle during her first round of the tournament, posting it on the par 5 18th.

Abrianna Carstens in 94th, Grace Daech in 101st, Sophia Morettini in 104th and Katie Sulko in 115th rounded out the scoring for the Stormy Petrels.

Carstens, Daech, Morettini and Sulko each posted their best round on Friday, helping the Petrels start the tournament off strong.

As a team, Oglethorpe finished 20th with rounds of 325-339-355. The Petrels also landed top 10 in the field on the par 4’s and par 5’s.

Oglethorpe hosts the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate April 4-6 then heads to the Southern Athletic Association Championships April 25-27 in Dickson, Tennessee.
