Patrick Reed can’t wait to resume battles with Rory McIlroy with the pair set to tango on the DP World Tour in 2026.
The American edged McIlroy by a stroke in the opening round on Thursday.
“Any time I get to go play against Rory, it’s always fun because that means you get to play some amazing golf,” Reed said after carding a four-under opening round at the BMW PGA Championship.
The pair have history as both found themselves as leaders and chief motivators for their respective Ryder Cup teams. Reed edged Rory in one of the most memorable singles matches in modern team history back in 2016.
“With his record and just kind of his resumé that he has, he’s a champion. He’s been a champion a ton of times, and he’s one of those guys that if you go up against the best, you’re going to have to take him and Scottie [Scheffler] on.
“To have the opportunity to take him on throughout the whole rest of the year is going to be fun and [I’m] looking forward to it.”
Reed is currently trying to play his way back to the PGA TOUR. He’s doing a good job of it as he leads the Order of Merit following his season’s ban from the PGA TOUR after he exited LIV Golf.
