ATLANTA, Ga. – The SCAD women’s golf team hoisted the trophy at the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships on Tuesday, April 16 after two days of highly competitive golf. The tournament was hosted at the Governors Town Club in Acworth, Georgia, and highlighted the qualifying team that will proceed to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championships. This is the fourth time that the SCAD women’s golf team has taken home the AAC tournament title.
The Bees not only won the team title, but Martha Sanchez took home the overall tournament win individually, Holly Lau was the recipient of both the conference Freshman and Player of the Year awards, and Coach Andres Gotta was named Coach of the Year.
“This win is a testament to the leadership of Coach Gotta and the hard work and dedication of the players,” said SCAD Atlanta Director of Athletics Glen Hill. “Our women’s golf program has a rich history of success in the AAC, and we’re excited to see them perform at the national championships this year.”
The AAC conference is made up of competitive institutions including Brenau University, Montreat College, Tennessee Wesleyan University and Truett McConnell University, among others.
Next up, the SCAD team will head to the NAIA National Championships set for May 14 – 17 at the TPC Deere Run golf course in Silvis, Illinois.
