Jayden Schaper’s hot run of form has led to another superb round of golf at a weather-hit first round at the Joburg Open.
Schaper’s breakthrough season continues to impress as he fired off a flawless 64 in the co-sanctioned event on Thursday. The young South African star made the most of the two par 5s on offer with an eagle at the fifth and a birdie at the 10th.
With no bogeys to spoil his card, Schaper signed for a six under round.
He was joined by England’s Nathan Kimsey and Austria’s Maximilian Steinlechner with the day interrupted by bad weather.
Six players including Wilco Nienaber finished one back of Schaper’s pace in what was fast turning into a low scoring day in Johannesburg.
Patrick Reed limped to an opening -1 in his second consecutive start in South Africa.
At the time of writing, Casey Jarvis was -3 through 14 holes while Luke Brown was -7 through 14 to lead the way.
