ATLANTA, Ga—The Oglethorpe men and women’s golf programs have totaled over 100 academic all-America scholars over the last 25 years and last year in 2024-25 the two teams added 10 more between them to the total.
The women set a new school record of six all-America scholars in one year as graduated senior Sophia Morettini of Alpharetta, Georgia, and The Golf Club of Georgia, then-juniors Grace Daech of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Elizabeth Powell, a member at Horseshoe Bend from Roswell, Georgia, earned the award for a consecutive time. Morettini won for the fourth time while Daech and Powell took their third career honor.
Three 2024-25 freshmen rounded out the record six women including Alexis Sinutko, Morgan McKenzie of Marietta Country Club and Suwanee resident, and Laurel Springs Country Club member Katie Sulko.
On the men’s side, a pair of senior all-Americans also earned their third consecutive all-America scholar award. Sam Karman and Beck Lewis joined a long line of alumni as dual honorees earning both all-America scholar honors and all-America honors over their careers. To round out the four men honorees, sophomore standouts Ryan Dunn and Jackson Hiller earned their first all-America scholar honors giving the two teams the school record 10 total.
“We have had years with five or six or even seven honorees, but last year’s crew was elite,” said head coach Jim Owen. “Just special in the classroom and on the course with both teams carrying over 3.5 GPAs collectively. We are getting it done again this fall in the classroom and the men are ranked 10th nationally and the women are top 30 nationally.”
