September Newsletter
The leaves are falling and the temperatures are cooling down, but there’s still plenty of golf to be played! This month, we’re sharing some fall golf tips, catching up on what’s been happening with the She Plays Golf league and sharing some helpful rules and tips to keep in mind for your next round!
Fall Golf Tips
Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds and beautiful fall scenery make it one of the best times of the year to get out and play before winter rolls around. Here are a few simple ways to make the most of your fall round this season:
- Dress in layers: Fall weather can change quickly, so bring a few layers that you can easily add or remove throughout your round.
- Use bright coloured golf balls: As the leaves start to fall off the trees, finding your ball can get a bit trickier. Try using a bright coloured ball to make it easier to spot.
- Be prepared for the weather: A rain jacket, extra gloves and a towel in your golf bag can come in handy on cooler or wetter days.
- Adjust for the conditions: Cooler temperatures and softer, wetter fairways can mean your ball doesn’t travel as far as it does in the summer. Consider clubbing up (choosing the club that hits the ball a little farther) when needed!
- Enjoy the season!

Golf Doesn’t End When Summer Does: Transition to Off-Course Golf
Outdoor golf season may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean you have to put the clubs away just yet! Whether the weathers too cold, the daylights gone, or you’re just looking for a new way to play, off-course golf is a fun and exciting way to play.
Off-course golf includes golf simulators, driving ranges, short game areas, mini golf, virtual reality golf and golf-themed video games that provide opportunities to engage with the sport all year-round.
From working on your swing at a simulator to a little friendly competition between friends during a round of mini golf, there’s no shortage of ways to keep golfing during the colder months. Off-course options can be a great way to practice, have fun and enjoy the social side of golf—without worrying about the weather.
Rules Simplified: Ball Interfering with Play
If your ball is in the way of another player’s shot, they can ask you to mark and lift your ball. Remember:
- Always mark your ball! Before lifting your ball, place a ball marker or golf tee directly behind it to show where it was.
- Don’t lift your ball just because you think it might be in the way. Only lift it if another player asks you to. However, if you are on the putting green, then you can mark and lift your ball at any time.
- When lifting your ball, you cannot clean it unless it is on the putting green.
- Lifting the ball without marking it, lifting when not asked or cleaning when not allowed equates to a penalty stroke.
