The Siam Country Club Old Course has hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand on numerous occasions.
I’VE been fortunate enough to play plenty of great golf courses throughout Thailand over the years, but after a recent round at Siam Country Club Old Course in Pattaya, I walked away thinking one thing – wow – this place is seriously good.
From the moment you arrive, there’s a feeling of playing somewhere special. Everything is done properly, from the welcome at the clubhouse and the outstanding locker room facilities, through to the caddies, food and, most importantly, to the golf course itself.
For Australian golfers planning a trip to Pattaya, the Old Course should be very high on the list.
The course is beautifully presented and feels like a proper championship golf course, and while there’s plenty happening from tee to green, it never feels unfair. Good shots are rewarded, while finding the wrong side of a fairway or approaching a green from the wrong angle can make life considerably more difficult.
The condition during our visit was superb – and that shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The Old Course has hosted the Honda LPGA Thailand on numerous occasions, welcoming many of the best female golfers in the world to Pattaya. That championship pedigree is obvious throughout the layout, and the course is maintained to an exceptionally high standard all year round.
Fairways are beautifully manicured, the greens are superb and the overall presentation is exactly what is expected at one of Thailand’s premier golf venues.
What I particularly enjoyed was the overall experience. Golf in Thailand is different to what we’re accustomed to back home, and that’s part of its appeal.
The caddies at Siam Country Club were excellent. They know the golf course inside out, help with club selection, read the greens remarkably well and make the round enjoyable without getting in the way. A good caddie can make a big difference when playing an unfamiliar course, and ours were spot on.
Another terrific feature is the halfway houses dotted around the course.
Rather than having to wait until the end of nine holes, there are several opportunities during the round to stop briefly, grab a cold drink, something to eat and recharge before heading back out onto the course.
And when someone is offering a plate of dumplings halfway through a round of golf in Thailand, it’s pretty difficult to say no.
It creates a relaxed pace to the day and is one of those little touches that makes golf in Thailand so enjoyable.

The Siam Country Club Old Course is a must visit when in Pattaya, Thailand.
And the experience continues after the final putt.
The locker room facilities are outstanding and provide everything needed to freshen up following a round in Pattaya’s tropical conditions.
Then there’s the restaurant, which is genuinely impressive and well worth allowing some extra time for after golf. Sitting back over a cold drink and some quality Thai food, while talking about the day’s round is a good way to finish.
Siam Country Club has established an incredible golf offering in Pattaya, but the Old Course remains something very special.
Great golf course. Excellent caddies. First-class facilities. Fantastic food.
For Aussie golfers heading to Thailand, put this one on the itinerary.
Siam Country Club Old Course is an absolute must-play. And while the Old Course should be high on any list, it’s also worth allowing time to experience Siam Country Club’s other four courses, each offering something a little different and making Pattaya one of Asia’s great golf destinations.
