Following two weeks playing some of the most scenic golf courses in Hawaii, the PGA Tour is making the shortish trip to Southern California for the 2025 American Express.
The areas south of Los Angeles are tourist meccas on the West coast of America with stunning coastlines, landscapes and culture making it an absolute must-visit.
The third PGA event of the season will showcase the PGA West Stadium Course in La Quinta and its idyllic setting.
Golf in the southern part of the Golden State should be high on the bucket list for fanatics of the sport.
With spectacular year-round perfect weather, courses that suit those of all skill levels and the chance to walk in the footsteps of PGA pros, a trip to SoCal will provide some cherished golfing memories.
Here are 7 golf courses that you need to try and play in Southern California…
7. Torrey Pines Golf Club, San Diego
Situated on towering clifftops with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the Torrey Pines Golf Club has a North and South course.
The South Course has hosted several US Opens – including the 2008 edition which Tiger Woods famously won on one leg – and is a challenging course for those looking to navigate the tight fairways and large greens.
Alternatively, the North Course offers a more accessible option with the same jaw-dropping scenery for higher handicappers.
6. Riviera Country Club, Pacific Palisades
Riviera Country Club clubhouseThe Riviera Country Club is an iconic venue and has hosted the US Open and Genesis Invitational.
The chance to play one of Tiger’s favourites is not to be missed – if you can get a tee-time that is. The course is private so options include receiving an invite from a member or, more expensively, purchasing a charity sponsorship.
5. Monarch Beach Golf Links, Dana Point
Located in the beautiful harbour town of Dana Point, the Monarch Beach course offers links-style golf with wide fairways and devious greens on the coastline.
Its proximity to golden beaches and one of the most vibrant SoCal areas makes Dana Point an absolute must-visit – combining challenge and beauty.
4. Talega Golf Club, San Clemente
Just down the coast from Dana Point, the surfer town of San Clemente will bring immaculate ocean vibes in a rich culture.
Designed by Fred Couples, the course features a mix of challenging holes, water hazards and bunkers which will keep you honest on the course.
The lush, sun-soaked fairways that are just a stone’s throw from some of the world’s most sought-after beaches make this a must.
3. Coronado Golf Course, San Diego
Situated on the luscious Coronado Island, the golf course offers spectacular views of San Diego Bay and its downtown skyline.
A great shout for beginner golfers, the course is lined with wide fairways and as one of the most affordable options on the list, why not head to San Diego city?
2. Aviara Golf Club, Carlsbad
Crafted by Arnold Palmer, this stunning resort is nestled in the renowned Carlsbad hills.
Known for its serene atmosphere and amazing landscapes, Aviara Golf Club is rated as one of the best courses in the area and is home to the Kia Classic on the LPGA Tour.
Littered with exclusive wildlife, Carlsbad is definitely worth a visit.
