Steven Alker notches second PGA Tour Champions win with a commanding victory

New Zealand’s Steven Alker now has two PGA Tour Champions titles to his name after he carded a seven-under 65 in the final round to win the Rapiscan Systems Classic by six shots.

Alker’s 18-under tally for the 54-hole event at Grand Bear Golf Club established a new tournament record.

It was a course-record 62 in the second round that saw Alker take the lead, and he backed up the hot form in the final round.

Alker had snapped a seven-year victory drought with his debut title on the over-50s circuit the TimberTech Championship in November. This time he finished with a flourish.

“[My game] was there,” Alker said. “I didn’t quite have it the first day but just kind of freed it up and let it go.”
This latest win is a carryover from Alker’s remarkable run in the second half of last year when he ran seventh at the Boeing Classic after getting into the tournament on a Monday qualifier not long after his 50th birthday. He went on to notch nine top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments, highlighted by his first win.
