Straka skips BMW Championship

Austrian Sepp Straka has withdrawn from this week’s BMW Championship for family reasons but will compete in next week’s Tour Championship.

Straka, fifth in the FedExCup standings, is already assured of his spot at East Lake thanks to wins at The American Express in January and May’s Truist Championship.

“For personal reasons, Sepp is unable to play this week,” said his manager, Butler Melnyk. “He intends to compete at the Tour Championship, but requests privacy at this time as he attends to a family matter at home.”

His absence leaves a field of 49 at Caves Valley Golf Club, with the top 30 advancing to the season finale from 21-24 August.

World No 10 Straka, 32, has four PGA Tour titles and 13 top-25 finishes this season, including a T17 at last week’s St Jude Championship. His best Tour Championship result is a share of seventh in 2022.

He is also sixth in the European Ryder Cup qualifying standings, with the top six after the Tour Championship securing automatic spots for September’s contest at Bethpage State Park.
