Bryson DeChambeau did not face the media on Thursday but did answer a few approved questions from the R&A … and he made sure Nick Faldo knew about it.
Thursday marked the fifth straight Major championship round in which DeChambeau declined to talk to the media afterward.
The American has come in for heavy criticism following his run of Major golf this year where he hasn’t played on the weekend.
His choices – from the league he plays on, the clubs he uses and his preparation – have all come under scrutiny.
Sir Nick Faldo roasted him before the first round but after his 67, DeChambeau decided to hit back.
“I think you’ve got to be a lot more strategic out on the golf course,” he said.
“I feel like I did a really good job today of being incredibly strategic and focused super hard on placing it in the right places.
“Besides 18, I placed the ball in some good areas. I just need to hit more fairways. Other than that, I feel like my strategy was nice today.”

Bryson DeChambeau mentioned strategy a few times in his only post-round comments today.

A note per leading analyst Justin Ray:
Bryson’s rare round: entering today, there were 1,779 instances of a player hitting 4 fairways or fewer in a major championship round. In only 8 of those did a player hit 15+ greens in regulation, as DeChambeau did today.
