Much to the surprise of golf traditionalists, Frisco, Texas, is home to the newest and hottest golf destination in the United States, Omni PGA Frisco.
I’ve been blessed to experience some spectacular destination venues. Each one has been memorable. Some have left me yearning to return. Omni PGA Frisco ranks highly on my list of “revisits.”

When you arrive at Omni PGA Frisco, you immediately see why the PGA of America and Omni partnered to create what they label as a home for modern golf.
What makes Omni PGA Frisco, in their words, “One Destination. Unlimited Fun”?
PGA Frisco – Fields Ranch

The spotlight at Omni PGA Frisco is the two golf courses: Fields Ranch East and West. The former will play host to the 2027 PGA Championship.
PGA Frisco – Fields Ranch East
Gil Hanse and his team designed Fields Ranch East with one theme: organic.
Fields Ranch East uses the natural terrain: rolling hills, dry washes and Panther Creek to create a golf course that emphasizes accuracy. But that theme can be deceiving. You stand on the first tee and see an absurd amount of the golf course. But it is not as open as you think.

The wind and rolling terrain make the course play tighter than it appears. The green complexes are on the smaller side with undulations. Several feature severe run-off areas. Combine all of these factors and Fields Ranch East demands excellence on every shot. If you don’t execute or leave yourself in a good spot, you’ll reap the consequences.
There is more to discuss so take a peep at these photos.

PGA Frisco – Fields Ranch West
With fairways that average approximately 75 yards in width, it provides a friendlier challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
Beau Welling designed Fields Ranch East. Much like Fields Ranch West, Welling and his team utilized the natural terrain. It has more diversity as prairie lands and wetlands come into play on several holes. Despite being forgiving off the tee, Fields Ranch East demands execution on approach shots.
One of the more memorable holes is the ninth on Fields Ranch West. It’s an uphill par-5 that can be reachable in two shots. However, it is guarded by a monstrous bunker called “Big Bubba.” Thankfully, I avoided “Big Bubba” on the way to making a birdie.
Overall, Fields Ranch West is a wonderful complement to Fields Ranch East. The wider fairways make it playable and deliver what you initially sense on the tee boxes of Fields Ranch East. It plays wide-open on several tee shots. However, there are a few high-risk, high-reward tee shots that get narrow in a hurry. The green complexes are also larger but still have similar run-off areas that can create some tricky up-and-down scenarios.

What to expect at Fields Ranch
The terrain on each golf course is impeccable. As I continue to experience different golf courses, it is amazing to see the creativity to bring golf courses to life. Some of the hole designs make you wonder “How the heck did the architect visualize this?”

Each golf course here offers caddie programs. For Fields Ranch East, a caddie is required since it is a walking course only. Despite the rolling terrain, the course is easier to walk than I expected … and that is coming from an amputee.
Wait, there’s more!
The Dance Floor and The Swing
Imagine a standard Wednesday evening in October: middle of the work week, kids are still in school, but you have an outdoor golf haven accessible to resort guests and the general public. Do you think it’s busy? If your guess is no, you’re missing the mark. This is the Dance Floor and the Swing, two gems that make Omni PGA Frisco a dynamite of a time.

The Dance Floor is the largest natural grass putting course in the United States. It occupies two acres and is fully lighted. This is the perfect venue for an evening get-together and that is exactly what I witnessed. There were young families socializing. There were adults and teenagers enjoying themselves. For golfing fanatics, it is an awesome place to settle some wagers.
Next, you have the Swing. The Swing is a 10-hole par-3 course co-designed by Hanse and Welling. Each architect designed five holes. However, the other ended up building and developing the other’s design, a unique feature of the overall design of the Swing.

Much like the Dance Floor, the Swing was buzzing with play on a Wednesday night. Young and old alike were eating up the golf course. Our group even witnessed a younger golfer hit a hole-in-one. You love to see it.
This is what you want to see: a hub where golf is at the center but it is, above all, about fun. If you’re serious about growing the game of golf, these are the type of atmospheres destination golf courses need to implement. They create fun for the entire family. A win-win in my book.

PGA District
With all of these golf-centric activities at your fingertips, you’re bound to work up an appetite. Rest assured, the PGA District at Omni PGA Frisco has you covered. Whether you are looking to pregame your round or seek refreshment after the fact, this is the place to be. Even for non-golfers, it is a prime spot for some good ole food and drink—and perhaps a bit of Topgolf.

PGA District is the entire landscape where the Dance Floor and the Swing are located. It offers shops and dining options. Here is the list of amenities.
- Ice House – This modern, ranch-style beer garden is a highlight of the district, featuring six live hitting bays and sweeping views that overlook the action on the Swing.
- Lounge by Topgolf – Situated in the heart of the PGA District, this venue merges craft cocktails and locally inspired plates with the industry-leading Topgolf Swing Suite technology. It offers an array of virtual games that ensure a fun, interactive atmosphere for everyone.
- Margaret’s Cones and Cups – This is the ultimate destination for unique gourmet coffee, ice cream and a variety of sweet treats. It serves as the ideal spot for a post-round dessert or a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up after tackling 18 holes under the Texas sun.
Omni PGA Frisco has 13 dining options on the premises. My favorite is Trick Rider.
“Authentic rodeo culture meets upscale dining at Trick Rider, a vibrant venue whose design pays homage to the famed rodeo stars and Texan culture with design details like our hand-cut crystal horse chandelier and horseshoe-shaped bar. Choose from a mouthwatering selection of signature steaks, seafood, and shellfish dishes while soaking up our unique ambience.”

Is Omni PGA Frisco “the home of modern golf”?
The PGA of America and Omni are striving to market Omni PGA Frisco as “the home of modern golf.” This is evident by a championship level golf course, a fun and challenging secondary golf course, and amenities galore that cater to all demographics of golfers and non-golfers.
None of this encompasses the services the PGA of America has on property: their new headquarters and a PGA of America Teaching Center. Here’s a snapshot.
“The 12,000 square foot PGA of America Coaching Center powered by T-Mobile is located adjacent to the Field’s Ranch Practice Facility at the west end of the Monument Realty PGA District. The unique offering combines 1:1 and group coaching, club fitting, and corporate events to create a unique, high-touch, high-tech and data driven experience that serves beginner and elite golfers in Frisco, TX.”
When you merge these world-class amenities with the full scale of the resort, you’re left with an invigorating atmosphere that’s tough to equal. Omni PGA Frisco is a true bucket-list destination for any golf enthusiast.
