The Open: Fitzpatrick headlines big names heading home

Matt Fitzpatrick is a 2026 Player of the Year nominee but his great form left him this week as he missed The Open cutline.

The Englishman headlines a contingent of some big names in golf not able to make the +1 cutline at Royal Birkdale.

Fortunately, for the Fitzpatrick family there is one son in the mix as Alex is -4 through 36 holes.

Fitzpatrick (Matt) could only muster two rounds of 72 – his double at the 12th yesterday was ulimately what set him the impossible target of getting to +1 as he ended +4.
