When the U.S. Open, the 4th of July and the nation’s first-ever semiquincentennial all coalesce, everyone wants to join the party.
Wilson is bringing its own bit of red, white and blue cheer with a new limited-edition Stars and Stripes model of its popular DUO Soft golf ball.
It’s the same DUO Soft as the standard models. It’s just all dressed up for Independence Day with a slick looking red, white and blue TRK 260 alignment aid. The DUO Soft logo is bookended by blue stars. The Wilson shield and player number are also blue while the classic Wilson script logo is red.
The ball, of course, is white.
The packaging is flag-draped all-American, as well.
A legacy of soft
The Wilson DUO Soft re-energized low-compression golf balls when it was introduced in 2011. That first model had a ridiculously low compression of 27 (I’ve slept on pillows firmer than that) but this current version, introduced in 2025, has a listed compression of 37.
The DUO Soft is a two-piece ionomer-covered ball and at that compression, it’s not going to spin very much. That won’t help you much if you’re trying to hold a green but it’s not without merit. If you’re a right-handed golfer who habitually slices the ball into the next county on the right, a low-spinning ball like the DUO Soft might wind up in the right rough instead.
If you’re a left-handed habitual slicer, just reverse the math.
A low-spinning ball is also not without merit when it lands. The DUO Soft won’t have the same initial ball speed as a firmer ball but it will at least try to make up for that by curving a little less and rolling a little more. More roll equals more distance, even if it’s just a little.
And what matters is where the ball winds up, not how it got there. There’s not a golf course on the planet that makes you pick up the ball from where it stops and go back and play it from where it landed.

If you’re a single-digit baller, the Wilson DUO Soft won’t give you the spin you crave to hold greens. That’s OK, though. This ball isn’t made for you.
If, however, you struggle with too much driver spin and want to keep the ball on your fairway instead of someone else’s or if you just like how squishy-soft golf balls feel when you hit them, then the Charmin-like Wilson DUO Soft might be right up your red, white and blue alley.
The only things missing are the rockets’ red glare.
