The Vice Golf Heritage Collection Isn’t Just Another Augusta-Themed Cash Grab

There are certain things you can count on in this life. The one that matters today is simple, yet unorthodox.

You can always rely on Vice Golf to bring some limited-edition heat for every major.

The Vice Golf Heritage Collection is, as the company states in its press release, “thoughtfully curated to honor golf’s rich legacy and the sport’s most prestigious annual tournament held in Augusta.”

As we’ve said several times this spring, OEMs will go to great lengths to avoid using the M-word.

Vice has some serious creative chops and its limited-edition majors’ collections are always full of surprises. The Heritage Collection is no different and it has a little bit of everything to make you wistful for the hilly green pastures of Augusta.

And the entire lineup is gloriously azalea-free.

Now that Vice Golf is a full-line OEM, it’s bringing a limited-edition club to the season-opening party. It’s a specially designed Vice VGP02 mallet putter that might be the finest-looking flatstick in the Vice corral.

And just like Augusta National in April, it’s very green.

Vice Golf Heritage Collection putter

The 100-percent CNC-milled aluminum head is green with contrasting black steel weights on the wings. The putter comes with a green Heritage Collection-branded graphite shaft and – surprise, surprise – a golf Heritage Collection slant neck hosel. It’s a pretty sweet touch.

The oversized Heritage Collection branded P2 grip is black with green and gold accents and the magnetic headcover is next level. It’s green, of course, with what appears to be an old-school southern country club logo embroidered on top.

The Vice Golf Heritage Collection VGP02 putter comes in a 34-inch model only. It sells for $309.99.

The Heritage Collection Vice Pro Plus golf balls are exquisitely packaged in deep-green packaging with gold accents. The custom logo is similar to the southern country club logo on the putter headcover, just without the clubhouse. Vice is also offering customized Heritage Collection tees as part of the package.

Hey, if you’re going to have Heritage Collection golf balls, you might as well have Heritage Collection tees to rest them on.

The Heritage Collection Vice Pro Plus golf balls run $42.99 for single dozen. They’re $38.99 if you buy three dozen and $34.99 if you order six dozen.

The tees are $8.99 for a bag of 60 driver tees and 15 short tees.

More Heritage Collection Goodies

Vice rounds out the Heritage Collection with a reversible white/green bucket hat because why the hell not? I’m personally not a big bucket hat guy. Joel Dahmen can rock the bucket but I tend to look like a doofus in one. They run $32.99.

Lastly, the Heritage Collection includes what Vice is calling a “double-sided towel.” I’m not sure how you can make a towel with just one side but if you could, it would be one hell of a trick (I kid, I kid).

The Heritage Collection microfiber towel has two vastly different designs on each side. The green side is a rich Heritage Collection type of green with that cool southern country club logo. The white side features a green artist’s renditions of golf clubs, golf balls and stylized Augusta-style flora and fauna. It’s pretty good-sized at 16 x 28 inches and runs $21.99.

Final thoughts

It would be cynical (but not altogether inaccurate) to classify all of these “first major of the year” limited editions as unbridled cash grabs. They clearly are but that doesn’t mean they can’t be done well. As we mentioned, Vice has one of the best creative departments in the game and it does an admirable job of creating distinctive looks that don’t go overboard (especially with azaleas).

On top of that, if you’re one of the lucky few who can look cool in a bucket hat, the entire line features stuff you can actually use.

All in all, the Heritage Collection is in line with Vice Golf’s tradition of majors-themed limited-edition releases. Vice knows its customer base as well as any OEM in golf and the Heritage Collection reflects that with just the right balance between tradition and style.

The Heritage collection is available now at vicegolf.com.
