Change my mind: Airports are extremely boring … or so I thought.
I travel to a handful of airports each year and July of 2026 marked my first time at the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.
As far as airports go, Detroit is average (or even slightly below). Grimy, stinky, overpriced, unsanitary—but perfectly necessary to get from point A to point B. I was almost done making this conclusion when I stumbled upon an airport store that boasted headcovers, polos and hoodies.
Eastside Golf was created by Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl A. Cooper in 2019 with one purpose in mind: Convince the next generation that golf is where it’s at. Eastside Golf offers a number of different products from apparel to headcovers with an emphasis on more casual golf gear (think Malbon or Sugarloaf Social Club).
When I saw the Eastside Golf store in the airport, I immediately turned to my wife and pointed it out. This Eastside Golf location isn’t the only golf store found in airports but it’s less common than your typical gift shop or fast-food joint.
Pricing and final thoughts

There are few things worse than paying $5 for a bottle of water in the airport knowing darn well that you can find that exact same water bottle for $2.59 at the closest gas station.
Unfortunately, the Eastside Golf (Detroit Airport) inventory seemed to be priced at roughly 40- to 80-percemt higher than online offerings indicated. Let me make myself perfectly clear Eastside Golf makes solid gear with a clear and popular vision but it’s difficult to justify an up-charge of this size (even if it comes in the form of a cool store that helps you kill some time before your next flight).
That being said, if you’re on a golf trip and in a pinch, having the gear immediately in hand might be worth the up-charge. If you’re patient and hoping to save as much as possible, you’re better off ordering online.

The gear is eye-catching, enough so that the window shopper will be kept busy while prepping for their next destination. At the very least, the presence of Eastside Golf will remind you that you’re overdue for your next tee time.
