This Pro Hits It 25 Yards Farther Than The Tour Average And He’s Playing A $350 Driver

Through the Players Championship, Gary Woodland leads the PGA Tour in driving distance.

He’s averaging just over 326 yards, roughly 25 yards above the Tour average.

But it’s not the most interesting part of the story. His driver is.

Woodland’s 2025 setup has him in the COBRA DS-Adapt X, a driver you can buy for low as $350.

Why Woodland is leading the PGA Tour in driving distance

Through the Players Championship, Woodland was No. 1 on the PGA Tour in driving distance at 326.2 yards, almost 24 yards longer than the average.

Michael Brennan is second at 324.0, Aldrich Potgieter is third at 322.6 and Rory McIlroy is tied for ninth at 315.5.

Woodland ranks first in clubhead speed at 127.37 mph which helps explain why the distance is so high in the first place. He is also third in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee so this is not just raw speed with no value attached to it. The rest of his game has been much less consistent. Right now, the driver is clearly the strongest part of his season.

Considering what Woodland has been through the last few years with his health, it’s pretty cool to see him leading the PGA Tour in driving distance right now.

Where the DS-Adapt X showed up in our testing

The DS-Adapt X was part of MyGolfSpy’s 2025 driver test and, more importantly, it held up well when you isolate faster swing speeds.

In the high swing speed test, the DS-Adapt X finished fifth overall. It produced:

  • Solid distance performance
  • Strong accuracy scores
  • Balanced results across all three scoring categories

The DS-Adapt Max K finished first overall for higher swing speeds—but the X still landed firmly in the top tier.

The takeaway

If you’re a high swing speed player looking for a driver with Tour-proven performance that also performed well in testing, the COBRA DS-Adapt X could be a good place to start. It’s going to be hard to find too many other options with that much proven performance for less than $400.
