Three Bulldogs Finish In Top 10 At Lady Bulldog Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. — Chantal El Chaib and Morgan Smith earned a share of second place while Celine Brovold Sanne placed ninth as the Georgia women’s golf team hosted the Lady Bulldog Invitational to open the spring season on Saturday.

·       All seven Bulldogs competed in the individual tournament, which was shortened to 18 holes due to cold and frost that prevented a timely start. El Chaib, Smith, and Brovold Sanne all shot par-or-better in their rounds to finish inside the top 10.
·       El Chaib carded a 3-under 69 in her runner-up performance, sinking a birdie on the first hole and remaining under par for the rest of the round. The graduate student birdied four times on the back nine, including back-to-back times on holes 10 and 11.
·       Smith matched El Chaib’s score of 69, sinking three birdies and an eagle to earn a share of second place. She birdied twice on the front nine and again on hole 12 before carding an eagle on the 18th hole.
·       Brovold Sanne posted an even-par 72 to round out Georgia’s top-10 competitors in ninth place. The sophomore started on hole 5, bogeying on the ninth and 16th holes before carding back-to-back birdies on the 18th and first holes.
·       Saturday’s tournament marked the first of six regular season tournaments on Georgia’s spring calendar. The Bulldogs will return to the UGA Golf Course at the end of the regular season when they host the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic on April 8-9.

The Bulldogs will compete in their first team tournament of the spring when they travel to Guadalajara, Mexico, for the Collegiate Invitational at GCC on Jan. 31-Feb. 1. The tournament will take place at Guadalajara Country Club with the University of Virginia serving as the host.
