Tiger and Rory’s new indoor golf league now has a schedule, but what is it anyway?

The six-team tech-infused golf league, the TGL, now has a broadcast schedule. We drill down a little into what its all about.

TGL, a new tech-infused golf league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is set to kick off on January 7, 2025. This innovative league, featuring top PGA Tour players, offers an alternative take on the sport, with matches played in a custom-built arena using a giant simulator and real grass for shots.

Teams will compete in two-hour made-for-TV matches every Monday and Tuesday night, broadcast live on ESPN. The competition will culminate in a best-of-three playoff in March, with the winning team taking home a share of the $21 million prize pool.

The league comprises six teams, each representing different American cities.

Dane Heverin at FoxSports outlined how the golf will take place within this massive indoor stadium.

Unlike a regular golf simulator, TGL players will not always be hitting from synthetic grass into the screen.

They will hit from real grass – both shorter fairway grass and thicker rough depending on where their ball ends up – as well as sand – if they end up in bunker – into the screen which is roughly 24 times bigger than a normal golf simulator.

From roughly 50 yards or less, the players will transition into the “Green Zone” an area larger than four basketball courts which will features the largest ever adaptable putting surface.

The green will change its slopes and undulation every hole to create variety like on a real golf course.

Thirty brand new holes have been designed for the arena with a random assortment of 15 holes to be used in each match.

Among the notable teams is The Bay Golf Club, led by Australia’s Min Woo Lee, who will be joined by Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, and Shane Lowry. Other teams include Boston Common Golf, featuring Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama, and Jupiter Links Golf Club, home to Tiger Woods, Max Homa, and Tom Kim.
The 6 TGL Teams:

  • Atlanta Drive GC: Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel, Lucas Glover
  • Boston Common Golf: Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott
  • Jupiter Links Golf Club: Tiger Woods, Max Homa, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner
