ATHENS, Ga. — Trinity Beth, a mid-year enrollee who joined the Georgia women’s golf team in January, was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Wednesday. Beth posted her second top-25 finish in as many starts at the Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Ariz., earlier this week.
Beth fired a 4-under 212 tally to tie for 21st on Monday, after tying for 16th at the FAU Paradise Invitational in her collegiate debut two weeks earlier. She extended her streak of par-or-better rounds to five loops in Arizona and has posted red numbers in five of six rounds as a Bulldog. Beth also has contributed counting scores in every round at each tournament.
“Trinity came to Athens and it’s like nobody told her she’s a true freshman,” Georgia coach Erika Brennan said. “She has hit the ground running and it’s great to see her get rewarded with Freshman of the Week so early in her career. Her work ethic is so strong but what’s really special is how coachable she is. She’s already locked in to doing the small things to level up. Her energy is contagious and she’s so much fun to be around. We can’t wait to see all she will continue to accomplish during her time at Georgia.”
Beth, a native of Calvert City, Ky., and a four time Miss Kentucky Golf honoree at Marshall Country High School, helped Georgia shoot 15-under 849 at the Westbrook Invitational, equaling the fourth-best tournament score in program history.
Beth is the third Georgia golfer to earn SEC weekly honors this season, joining Maria Garcia and Sydney Givens. Garcia and Givens were tabbed SEC Golfer of the Week after capturing medalist honors at The Robbie and the Schooner Fall Classic, respectively, during the fall.
Georgia will return to action next week when the Bulldogs compete in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. That tournament will feature live coverage on the Golf Channel next Monday-Wednesday from 2:30-5:03 p.m. ET.
