Triple Black Evnroll 38 Tour Spec Putters

  • The Triple Black Evnroll 38 Tour Spec putters are blacked-out versions of their new counterbalanced long putter designs.
  • Each model is 38 inches long with a head weight between 380 to 400 grams.
  • Made in limited quantities with a MSRP of $499.
  • Pre-orders are live now, with putters shipping by June 15.

When Evnroll released their 38 Tour Spec counterbalanced putter line in May, more than a few of you wondered why they didn’t release versions with the black ceramic finish.

Your question is valid since all of the models in the 2024 Evnroll Neo Classic line are available in the satin or black finishes. At the time, it seemed a bit odd that the 38 Tour Spec putters were offered only in satin.

As it turns out, all we had to do was wait about a month for the black finish.

As of today, not only are black versions of the Evnroll 38 Tour Spec putters available for order but these new putters are in fact triple black putters.

The Triple Black Evnroll 38 Tour Spec Aesthetic

About a week ago, I chronicled running the new Evnroll Custom putter builder through its paces. For $20, Evnroll gives you a whole bunch of physical build options but not many cosmetic ones.

Evnroll’s putters look utilitarian. In that custom article, I believe I said something along the lines of Evnroll being more concerned with helping you make putts than having purple paint on your putter. That’s not a bad thing but neither is having a putter that is a looker as well as a worker.

The new Triple Black 38 Tour Spec putters look badass.

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec vs. Neo Classic

All of the red paint on the putter head has been replaced with black. It’s a simple alteration but it looks amazing.

Only the sight line is still white but that is just Evnroll choosing function over form. The white line has higher contrast to the black ceramic finish than a black line would have.

Like with the Neo Classic line, the other components on the putter are black as well. The extended grip is black as is the long ski pole-like shaft. The headcover is the same good-looking black one from the Neo Classic line.

Did you notice that the ring around the insert switched from white to black as well? I find it somewhat amazing how the switch to black paint enhanced the looks of the black head.

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec Build Plan Rehash

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec Grip

I’m not going to waste your time repeating all of the informative tidbits from my original Evnroll 38 Tour Spec article. If you are desperate for specifics, you can give this little link a gentle click and it will take you right there.

That said, here are some of the key elements of the 38 Tour Spec Build plan.

All of the Triple Black 38 Tour Spec putters are 38 inches long. Hence the name. The shaft is not just longer but also stiffer to compensate for the heavier than usual putter heads.

Though the putter is 38 inches long, you will grip down the shaft at your usual grip position. Depending on where you usually grip your putter, this could put your hands three or four inches below the butt of the grip.

The extra grip and shaft mass above your hands counterbalances the heavier putter head. The effect of this build on your putting is that its added stability should remove some of your wrist action and help you keep the face square to your target line while you putt.

Evnroll’s Dual Response Insert

Evnroll Dual Response Face and grooves

The black color is stunning and the counterbalanced design is going to bring needed stability to some golfers’ strokes but the killer app for these Evnroll putters is still the face.

The new Dual Response Insert’s polymer and aluminum construction gives it an amazing feel while its SweetFace milling corrects putts for distance and dispersion.

The black paint may be the headline but don’t forget for a second that Evnroll’s primary mission is to include technologies in their putters that help you make putts.

Evnroll Triple Black 38 Tour Spec Putter Models: ER2

Evnroll Triple Black 38 Tour Spec ER2

The 2024 Most Wanted Blade winner leads off the Triple Black 38 Tour Spec line-up. This black beauty is the only counterbalanced blade in the cohort.

The ER2 has a great squared-off profile behind the ball, making it very easy to align to the target. The ER2 will be available in right- and left-handed dexterities.

If you are a blade player looking to give counterbalanced putters a shot, the ER2 is the one for you.

Evnroll Triple Black 38 Tour Spec Putter Models: ER5

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec ER5

The ER5 is the one of two mallets in the Triple Black 38 Tour Spec mallets. The ER5 has an overall fang shape but there are little Evnroll design tweaks here and there.

The central region of the ER5 is loaded with grooves paralleling the sight line. These lines, along with the interior edges of the fangs, combine into a rectangular alignment feature behind the ball.

Material was removed from the underside of the fang tips, allowing the weight of the head to be shifted a bit forward. The ER5 fangs also produce a bit of a ringing tone at impact.

Evnroll Triple Black 38 Tour Spec Putter Models: ER8

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec ER8

Rounding out the bunch is the ER8 mallet. This mallet is the one most people looking for the counterbalanced experience will gravitate to. Compared to the other two, this one looks like it should be counterbalanced.

Though round mallets are not my bag, I really like how the Triple Black treatment looks with the ER8. This is a handsome mallet with a solid feel.

Like the ER5, the central region of the ER8 has a very rectangular look. Though this rectangle doesn’t extend to the rear of the putter like it does with the ER5, it also helps make targeting a linear exercise. I ignore the curved edges completely when hitting balls with the ER8.

Evnroll’s Father’s Day Special Offer

Evnroll Father’s Day Special

I know some of you are on the fence right now about picking up one of these putters. You are thinking something like:

Man, these are sweet, but they would be even sweeter if they came with a free Evnroll valuables pouch, ball marker and towel.

It’s like Evnroll has read your mind. Now through June 16, you will get all three of those USA-themed Evnroll accessories for free when you buy any putter.

Any putter qualifies for the offer. These Triple Black 38 Tour Specs are sexy, but if you’ve had your eye on a Neo Classics ER1.2, that one counts for the free Father’s Day gear as well.

Final Thoughts on the Evnroll Triple Black 38 Tour Spec Putters

Evnroll 38 Tour Spec Black and Satin Putters

Evnroll nailed the aesthetics with the Triple Black 38 Tour Spec line. So much so that as soon as I saw them, I felt that all of their black putters should also be triple black.

The current stock red-on-black scheme is better for brand logo visibility but the black-on-black looks so good. I think it looks good enough to separate a significant number of golfers from their skins winnings.

Counterbalanced long putters will not be the answer to everyone’s putting woes but they will be godsends for some golfers.

The great thing about the Triple Black 38 Tour Spec putters is that they can take the shakes out of your hands and look damn good while doing so.

FAQ: Evnroll 83 Tour Spec Putter Line

If I put a three-inch shaft extension into my 35-inch putter will that make it perform like one of these?

It will be 38 inches long like these but the weighting and balance will be all off. Even if you can add weight to the head, the shaft may be too flexible to handle the length.

If counterbalanced putters are so good, why aren’t all of the pros using them?

Counterbalanced putters will be the solution to some golfers’ putting woes but not all golfers. I don’t think there is a universally best putter out there or that there will ever be one.

Is the person making Evnroll putters the same one who made Rife putters back in the 2000s?

Absolutely. Guerin Rife is the man behind the metal for both brands. He’s been driven to help golfers make more putts for decades.

Are any of these available left-handed?

Both the ER2 and the ER5 are available left-handed.
