Ben Griffin earned his first individual PGA Tour victory this weekend at the Charles Schwab Challenge, closing out a steady final round at Colonial Country Club to win by one stroke. The win follows his team success at the Zurich Classic last month marking a significant milestone in Griffin’s professional career.
Griffin’s performance throughout the tournament was marked by consistency and resilience – typical of his current form. He and Schmid were tied for the second-round lead at 11 under, both shooting impressive rounds of 7-under 63. In the final round, Griffin maintained his composure, never falling behind, and secured the win with a crucial four-foot par putt on the 72nd hole.
The win at Colonial is a continuation of Griffin’s steady rise on tour. After briefly stepping away from the game in 2021, he returned with renewed focus and earned his PGA Tour card for the 2023 season. Less than two years later, he’s now a two-time winner – this time, on his own.
As a further bonus, Ben’s victory saw him jump up the world rankings and into the top 25, securing his entry into the 153rd Open Championship. Ben will be hoping to improve on his T8 finish at the PGA Championships last week when he tees it up at Royal Portrush in the final major of the year.
Ben’s ball-striking and close control, especially with his short-irons and wedges, was a key part of his game plan on a course that called on all his scrambling experience.
