Adam Scott was fighting through windy conditions to stay in contention midway through the second round of the US Open at The Country Club at Brookline.
Scott was battling to stay even with the card through seven holes on Friday and he sat at one-under-par par for the tournament, just three shots off the lead.
Unheralded Englishman Callum Tarren was co-leading midway through his second round alongside David Lingmerth and two-time Major winner Collin Morikawa. Nick Hardy (68) and Scottie Scheffler (67) held the clubhouse lead at three under.
Scott’s countryman Marc Leishman was next best of the Australians on the leaderboard at even par overall, with play still underway.
Scott and Leishman are the only two Australians in the afternoon wave, while the morning groups struggled. Todd Sinnott posted a 71 at the par-70 Brookline course to drop to two over while Min Woo Lee’s 70 left him at three over. The pair were set to make the 36-hole cut, which was projected to fall at three over although it could drift to four over with afternoon scores sliding in the wind.
Australia’s top-ranked Cameron Smith had a disappointing day after a 74 dropped him to six over and he was set to make an early exit from a Major for the first time since last year’s US Open.
Lucas Herbert (79) was 13 over and Jed Morgan (74) was 16 over and both were certain to miss the cut.
More to come …
