Rory McIlroy will get his quest to win a second US Open Championship under way on Thursday at 12.52pm (UK time).
The six-time major winner, who last won this championship in 2011, will play the first two rounds at Shinnecock Hills in New York alongside Ryder Cup team-mates Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Aberg.
World number one Scottie Scheffler, who will become the seventh man to complete the career Grand Slam if he wins this week, is playing with defending champion JJ Spaun at 1.14pm.
England’s Aaron Rai, who won last month’s PGA Championship, is among the later starters and will tee-off at 6:14pm on Thursday alongside fellow major champions Collin Morikawa and Jason Day.
Matt Fitzpatrick, who won this title in 2022, is out with two-time winner Bryson DeChambeau and Norway’s Viktor Hovland in another marquee group, teeing off at 6.25pm
Three more previous US Open champions – Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm – head out at 7.09pm.
The USGA is operating a two-tee start to ensure the 156 competitors get around the course in good time.
The weather forecast for the New York area is currently showing gusts of up to 40mph during Thursday, with the rest of the week set to also present challenging wind conditions.
McIlroy is among a host of players who have warned the organisers about making the greens too fast for the drying conditions. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, he said: “There were gusts of 25 to 30mph on Monday, and balls wouldn’t stand on the 11th green. That’s where you just have to use a little bit of caution. They need protect the competitive integrity of the tournament and make it fair for everyone.”
