Martin Vorster has officially joined Southern Guards GC ahead of this week’s LIV Golf UK, with the 24-year-old meeting his teammates after arriving in England earlier this week.
Vorster steps into the all-South African line-up alongside Charl Schwartzel, Branden Grace and Dean Burmester following Louis Oosthuizen’s withdrawal through a recurring back injury.
He is joining Laurie Canter and Ben An in the first round on Thursday.
The Mossel Bay professional, who claimed his maiden Sunshine Tour victory earlier this season before continuing his campaign on Europe’s HotelPlanner Tour, said it had been a memorable first few days with the team.
“It’s been amazing. The guys have made me feel incredibly welcome from the moment I arrived,” said Vorster.
“Being around players I’ve looked up to for so many years is pretty special. I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can this week and enjoying every moment of the experience.”
One of those memorable moments came on the practice range when Vorster found himself chatting to two-time U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau.
“I was just on the range doing my thing and when I turned around there was Bryson DeChambeau watching me hit balls,” he said.
“We introduced ourselves and he said it looked like I could hit it pretty far. I just laughed and told him,’I don’t think as far as you.'”
