AS they push the boundaries of technology and development, I am always excited when I receive an email from Callaway saying; “Michael we have a new product we want you to review.” This review we are visiting a continued legacy of the Apex range….the Apex Ai150. This iron has the blueprints on the Apex Ai200 and Ai300 with its emphasised elevated look and feel, distance and superior spin consistency.
I am a little apprehensive when I see new irons in the market, however when Callaway keep producing really solid and well-designed irons it was no surprise how good the Apex Ai150 presented. My initial thought was I picked up the Callaway Apex MB and not the Ai150, purely from the shorter blade length, very minimal offset and the very appealing topline, all things that make a great looking iron.
Diving into the technology in the iron head, something that Callaway have done is blended premium materials and modern shaping. The 1025 forged hollow-body design features a 455 face cup (3i–7i) and 17-4 face (8i-W) for improved ball speed and feel throughout. There is no doubt this iron has been designed with a better golfer in mind. Something else I noticed for all the gently steep divot golfers out there was the leading-edge relief, which absolutely helps us get through hard and firm turf.

To the performance and something Callaway have introduced into their fitting system is the ability to change the loft in the iron heads, similar their drivers and fairway woods, which is great for gapping in the bag, producing an optimal ball flight or trying to work on a ball flight deficiency. For me I have a flatter ball flight and the Ai150 is a stronger lofted iron, so being able to adjust the iron head is brilliant. With my initial thoughts I couldn’t really tell from the data if I was hitting them poorly or hitting them well and I couldn’t believe how forgiving the Ai150 were. My good shots stayed good, but my miss hits still hit the areas I wanted them to.
The forged hollow-body helps this and also helps to keep up the ball speed so the carry distance doesn’t suffer. Another thing I noticed was the sound. The acoustics rarely change from the middled shots to when I struck the ball in the heel or toe.
In summary, the Apex Ai150 irons represent another impressive leap forward in iron design and performance at Callaway. Blending cutting-edge Ai-driven technology with a classic, player-preferred look, these irons deliver in both aesthetics and functionality. The feel, forgiveness, and adjustability make the Ai150’s a standout choice for golfers who demand precision without sacrificing playability. From the clean, compact profile to the innovative use of materials and adjustability, Callaway has crafted an iron that not only performs consistently but also inspires confidence at address.
