The FootJoy Fuel BOA Women’s golf shoes are the first pair I’ve tried with the BOA Fit System, and I liked their stability and ease of use. While they’re a bit bulkier than I expected, that added structure likely contributes to the support they provide throughout the swing.

When I was a junior golfer, my coach taught me a trick to get a tighter fit in my golf shoes. He told me to skip the last two eyelets and insert the laces from the top down instead of from the bottom. If you’ve never tried it, it makes the shoe feel much more secure. I’ve done that since I was a kid so I’m used to a snug fit when I play golf.
That’s why I wasn’t sure if the BOA Fit System would work for me. I’ve always relied on my lacing method to lock in my shoes and the idea of a micro-adjustable dial instead of traditional laces made me skeptical. But after a few rounds in the FootJoy Fuel BOA Women’s golf shoes, here’s what I’ve noticed.
It took me a while to get the fit right
To be honest, I was hesitant to crank the BOA Fit System too tight at first. I had this irrational fear that if I twisted the dial too much, the lace might snap. Turns out that wasn’t an issue at all. Once I got over that, I found that the BOA Fit System allows for a consistently snug fit that doesn’t loosen during the round. I just have to remember when I’m kicking the shoes off that I need to release the dial.
They feel a little bulkier than expected
For casual rounds, I tend to prefer a lighter shoe. The Fuel BOA isn’t overly bulky, but it does have a structure that makes it feel more like a sneaker. That’s intentional. FootJoy designed this shoe with an athletic profile, and for players who like that feel, it delivers exactly what they’re looking for.
They are waterproof (I tested)
My last pair of golf shoes weren’t fully waterproof, at least not to this level. I played a round after a rainstorm in early spring here in Georgia and the course had plenty of wet spots. Not once did I feel water seep through, which is really important. The one-year waterproof warranty is another bonus.
A solid balance of stability and movement
Stability is a big deal for me and these shoes deliver.
The TPU PowerClip and high-density EVA FitBed® keep my feet locked in. I’ve been working on using the ground more efficiently in my swing. If you try this concept with the wrong shoe, you’ll slide. Luckily, the FJ Fuel BOA gives me stability and traction without restricting my ability to push off and rotate through the ball.
Final thoughts
The FootJoy Fuel BOA Women’s golf shoes caught me off guard – in a good way. I wasn’t sure if the BOA Fit System would work for me but once I got used to it, I liked the convenience and locked-in feel. The waterproofing and stability were the biggest standouts. If you haven’t tried a BOA Fit System golf shoe yet, I’d say it’s worth a shot. I do wish FootJoy offered more color options in this FJ Fuel BOA but you’ll still see me wearing these this season.
