Hybrids have been replacing long irons for years and now they’re moving further down the bag. For a lot of golfers, the 5- and 6-iron are the next to go. The other day, I was asked if they could put a 7-hybrid in the bag and I realized I didn’t know who even makes one.
Here are some companies that sell 7-hybrids.
| Brand | Model | 7H loft | Lineup range |
|---|---|---|---|
| PING | G440 | 34° | 2H through 7H |
| TaylorMade | Qi4D Max Rescue | 34° (right-hand only) | 3H through 7H |
| TaylorMade | Qi4D Max Lite Rescue | 34° (right-hand only) | 4H through 7H |
| Callaway | Quantum Max | 30° | 3H through 8H |
| Callaway | Quantum Max Fast | 31° | 4H through 8H |
| Titleist | GT1 | 29° | 4H through 7H (20°, 23°, 26°, 29°) |
What stands out
Many brands stop at the 6-hybrid. COBRA’s OPTM tops out at the 6H (28 degrees) as does Srixon’s new ZXi RKT and Tour Edge’s Hot Launch Max D. It’s also important to look at loft and how that plays into your current golf set.
Titleist’s 7H is 29 degrees, Callaway’s are 30 and 31 and PING and TaylorMade sit at 34 so if you’re filling a gap in your bag, go by loft.

If you’re not sure a 7-hybrid belongs in your bag, buying used can be the cheaper way to find out. Just know that the selection is thin. A 7-hybrid isn’t a common club so you may find only a handful for sale and which ones depend on the hand and flex you need.
Women have more of a selection in the used department but I’ve watched the listings for a few weeks and there are options that come up.
Here are two I found on 2nd Swing.
| Club | Loft | Flex | Condition | 2nd Swing price | Was |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PING G LE 3 (right-handed) | 34° | Ladies (ULT 250 Lite) | Average | $109.99 | $229.99 |
| PING G430 (right-handed) | 34° | Senior (ALTA Quick 35) | Average | $219.99 | $299.99 |
How do I know if I need a 7-hybrid?
If it’s time to add a 7-hybrid to your bag you may start to notice a few things.
- Your 8-iron and 7-iron are going about the same distance.
- Your misses with the 7-iron are wider than they need to be and you’re generally not getting the launch and consistency you want out of the club.
That doesn’t always mean you need a 7-hybrid. A different 7-iron, one that’s a better fit for your game, could solve the same problem. That’s a conversation to have with a fitter who can help you figure out which way to go.
