Haotong Li now has four wins on the DP World Tour after closing out the Qatar Masters with a winning birdie.
The Chinese star needed a four at the 72nd hole and an-up-and-down from the greenside bunker saw him edge out Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen.
The 29-year-old, who featured on the International Presidents Cup side in 2019, has seen his game drop off alarmingly in recent years. In 2023 he made just two cuts in 23 starts, finishing 238th on the Race to Dubai, and earning under €18,000.
But his game is back on track now and part of that success is down to FootJoy’s all-new HyperFlex shoe. Li first used the shoes at the French Open – he would open up with a 67 around Le Golf National – and loved what he felt.
“I am very particular when it comes to golfing footwear as it is essential that my feet feel secure in the shoe,” said Li.
Gaining ball speed
“When testing the model, I noticed that I was actually gaining ball speed due to the shoe’s stability, making it easier for me to generate power from the ground.
“I have seen so many guys put the new HyperFlex into play, including Justin Thomas, so the shoe has clearly made a big impact amongst us professionals.”
The shoe has already proved hugely popular among the tour pros; Thomas is a devotee, as is recent winner Johannes Veerman, Corey Conners and Francesco and Edoardo Molinari. Noticeably all of these players were wearing a different footwear model until the new HyperFlex launched on tour.
In the Qatar Masters 62 per cent of the field were in FootJoy shoes, more than four times the nearest competitor.
The all-new HyperFlex is set to be available in UK and Ireland from March 1 with the Carbon model, which Li had in play in Qatar, launching later in the year.
