Which Golf Balls Spin The Most Around The Greens? 2026 Greenside Spin Rankings

The Callaway Chrome Tour X spun the most around the greens in the 2026 MyGolfSpy golf ball test at 5,992 rpm. The Titleist Velocity spun the least at 3,085, a gap of 2,907 rpm.

Full-swing spin gets most of the attention but some of the biggest differences we see between golf balls show up on short shots. In the 2026 MyGolfSpy Golf Ball Test, 48 balls were hit with a Vokey SM10 at a swing speed of about 42 mph, a 35-yard pitch. The median ball spun 5,390 rpm. Every figure below is the spin measured on that 35-yard shot.

The 10 highest-spinning balls around the green

The Chrome Tour X, Pro V1x and Z-Star Diamond were the only three balls to clear 5,900 rpm and all 10 balls below are urethane, listed from the highest spin down.

Positions 4 through 7 are separated by only 23 rpm; all of these golf balls offer great greenside spin.

What the numbers tell us

Cover material decides greenside spin more than anything else in the test but it does not guarantee it.

Cover material is the biggest factor. Urethane balls averaged 5,382 rpm on the 35-yard shot and ionomer balls averaged 4,118 rpm, a gap of more than 1,250 rpm. The differences in spin on longer shots are not as extreme between ionomer and urethane but around the green it’s quite obvious.

Urethane is not a guarantee. The best ionomer in the test, the Srixon Soft Feel, spun 4,595 rpm. Three urethane balls spun less than that: the Snell PR3 (4,184 rpm), Kirkland Performance+ White (4,324 rpm) and PXG Xtreme Tour (4,329 rpm). The Kirkland Performance+ Yellow was effectively tied with the Soft Feel at 4,599 rpm.

More spin means a lower launch. The three highest-spinning balls all launched at 30.6 degrees while the lowest-spinning ball launched at 38.4. The full spread was nearly eight degrees and ranking the balls by spin almost exactly reverses the launch order.

Full-swing performance doesn’t predict greenside spin. The Titleist Tour Soft was a top-10 spinner off the 7-iron at every speed tested yet it finished 42nd here at 4,231 rpm. The Bridgestone Tour B RXS and Titleist AVX go the other way: low-spin picks in the full-swing tests that rank seventh and eighth here.

The lowest-spinning ball around the green

Seven of the bottom 10 are ionomer, listed here from the lowest spin up.

The Titleist Velocity was the lowest-spinning ball in the test at 3,085 rpm, about half the spin of the Chrome Tour X and 917 rpm below the next-lowest ball, the Callaway Supersoft at 4,002 rpm. It is an ionomer ball and it launched at 38.4 degrees, 2.5 degrees higher than any other ball in the test.

That is not necessarily a flaw. At the mid swing speed (a 102-mph driver swing), it measured longest for total distance although it fell to 12th once roll was removed and only carry was counted. Low spin helps a ball run on firm ground but it makes stopping a pitch shot much harder.

The bottom line

If you want maximum spin around the greens, the Callaway Chrome Tour X, Titleist Pro V1x and Srixon Z-Star Diamond are the three to try first. The Maxfli Tour X, in sixth at 5,850 rpm, finished only 142 rpm behind the leader.

MyGolfSpy’s advice, which this data backs up, is that urethane is the starting point for greenside spin. Beyond that, check the individual ball: a urethane cover did not save the Snell PR3, Kirkland Performance+ White or PXG Xtreme Tour and a full-swing spin ranking said little about where the Tour Soft, Tour B RXS and AVX finished here.
