Rebecca Richardson has credited England Golf’s innovative iGolf platform with not only rekindling her passion for the game but also preventing her from drifting away from the sport altogether.
When it comes to ‘joining the club’, iGolf has emerged as a new way for golfers to connect or re-connect with the game.
Management consultant Rebecca has always loved golf and for 12 years she was proud to be a member at The Warwickshire.
However, the pressures of work and running her own business meant that she could no longer devote the time to the game required to justify the annual outlay.
When the pandemic struck and a work contract on a cruise ship ended, the Midlands golfer started to think more and more about playing the game but wasn’t sure which avenue to go down.
The occasional game with a friend at Leamington and County Golf Club whetted her appetite and then she was alerted to the iGolf platform – a way for non-members of golf clubs to obtain and maintain a handicap index.
For Rebecca, the platform fitted her needs perfectly.
For a £40 annual fee, Rebecca was able to pull in her previous scores from her CDH record, add new scores to ensure her playing handicap was accurate and also enjoy the peace of mind provided by free personal liability insurance.
The freedom to pay and play with her friends and try out new venues was another attraction for Rebecca – and she has no hesitation in recommending iGolf for anyone who is not yet ready or able to sign up for full golf club membership.
“I love the game and joining up with iGolf has helped me rediscover my enthusiasm,” admitted Rebecca.
“I know the value of golf club membership and maybe one day I will return to that form of the game.
“But at this stage, iGolf is ideal for me and my lifestyle.
“Without this option there’s a chance I would have been lost to the game.
“Now? Well, I’ve booked lessons, I play regularly with my friend Kath and now have a chance to look at playing in various opens.”
The arrival of Covid in 2020 and the simple joys of being in the open air enjoying the English countryside helped raise the profile of golf and led to a surge in popularity.
For Rebecca, the arrival of iGolf in the summer of 2021 was timely and has given her game a new lease of life.
“Now I just want to play more and more and my confidence has returned,” added Rebecca.
“There was a point where I debated with myself if I had room in my life for golf.
“But then iGolf gave me the right incentive to play again and I haven’t looked back.
“I love it. I enjoy playing with my friend Kath when we can and I quite like the thought now of being invited to play with other friends and being able to do so with an official handicap index.
“I’ve come down to 18.5 and the challenge for me now is to maintain this!
“I’ve booked lessons and started practising more so we’ll see what happens.
“But the great thing is just being back playing the game and enjoying it more than ever.”
