Jeff Winther delighted fans by securing victory at his home event after a roller coaster final round of the 2026 Danish Golf Championship.
There were eight players who had at least a share of the lead during a chaotic Sunday at Great Northern, but it was the 38-year-old who came out on top to claim his second DP World Tour crown.
Winther started four shots adrift at the start of his final round, but boosted his chances with birdies at the fourth and fifth before dropping shots at the sixth and eighth to derail his title bid.
A brace of birdies from the ninth saw him surge back into contention before rejoining the lead at 13 under with a gain at the 13th. He briefly led on his own before Rasmus Højgaard’s late burst saw him sit alongside his fellow Dane at the summit.
But Winther’s eagle putt from 31 feet at the 16th was enough to seal a three-shot victory at 15 under in Kerteminde.
When asked if he ever thought his name would be etched on to the trophy when he was a greenkeeper 15 years ago, Winther said: “No! I was never going to be a golfer so this is just insane. I don’t know what to say, I’m in shock!
“It’s just a joke really, I’m sad we’re not coming back here next year.
“It’s impossible to rank, just after my kids’ birth I think. It’s amazing and I don’t think it’s sunk in yet, but I’m overly happy.”
He added: “I feel a lot of love from the crowds and all the Danes support all the Danes, besides all the other players, but especially the Danes you can feel the love shining through.
“The crowds carried me all week, it’s been unbelievable.”
Brandon Stone finished with a second successive 72 to end in a share of 13th. He banks R700 000 for his efforts.
