For years, I’ve been chasing that “buttery soft” iron feeling that everyone talks about. Until just recently, I didn’t buy into the notion that a club could feel soft.

That all changed when I hit the Powerbilt Atlas MB. While I don’t hit the middle very often, when I do it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.

But I don’t want to get ahead of myself. You didn’t know Powerbilt was back, did you? I sure didn’t, until a happenstance meeting at the PGA Show this year shed a light on the really cool stuff CEO Paul Boe and the brand are doing.

Those of you that remember the glory days of Powerbilt (sorry, I’m not that old) have probably also seen the brand lose its cachet over time. Recently, Powerbilt has been nothing more than a licensable brand for things like package sets and budget clubs.

But, since Boe took over, they’ve put real effort into restoring the glory that once was and if the Atlas MB’s are any indication of what’s to come, they’re off to a hot start.

“Rebuilding a legacy golf brand like Powerbilt is both an honor and a privilege. It means honoring Powerbilt’s rich history as a brand that was once positioned at the highest levels and loved by generations over the past 110 years,” Boe said.

“For me, it’s about more than just bringing back a name. It’s about restoring trust and relevance. It means re-establishing Powerbilt as a symbol of quality and authenticity in the golf world by making products that golfers are proud to play. Ultimately, it’s about respecting the legacy and building a future that inspires the next generation of players.” 

Hot? Yeah. These irons are hot. Not in the typical “game-improvement, increased ball speed” sense. But in the looks department, I’d be willing to declare this a top-five hottest-looking iron I’ve ever seen.

Maybe it’s because orange is my favorite color but the super-subtle branding and classic muscle-back looks just pair so well together.

As for feel? I’d say it rivals the dashing good looks. I’m not a good golfer by any stretch of the imagination but when I do hit these bats out of the center, man, do they feel good.

Something about the S25c Japanese carbon steel has me feeling some type of way. Do I have absolutely any idea what that means from a material perspective? Nope. But if I had to describe the feel, its somewhere between plush and firm. Some would say, “just right.”

The ball still pops off the face but, like the feel, the sound is subdued and muted. The PowerBilt Atlas MB’s may finally be the iron to convince me that metal can feel “soft.”

As for performance, I’ll leave that to the experts. As you’d expect, the Atlas MB’s produce slightly lower ball speeds and more spin than my current player’s distance set. No skin off my back. I’m playing them because they look dang good, not because I need my 7-iron to fly 170 yards.
