Cameron Young sealed his maiden PGA Tour title with a commanding six-shot victory at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday.
Young closed with a two-under-par 68 at Sedgefield Country Club to finish on 22-under 258, comfortably ahead of Mac Meissner (66), who claimed second at 16 under.
The 27-year-old American, who has endured seven career runner-up finishes including at The Open in 2022, opened his final round with a bogey before stringing together five consecutive birdies. A pair of late dropped shots at 16 and 17 proved inconsequential as he tapped in for par at the last.
“I’ve been waiting for it for a while,” said Young. “I never thought I’d really be that emotional about it, but it’s the end of my fourth season and I’ve had my chances. Never quite like this – and I wasn’t going to let it get away from me today.”
Young, a Wake Forest University alumnus, also boosted his hopes of a Ryder Cup debut with victory just weeks before captain Keegan Bradley finalises his selections.
Alex Noren and Mark Hubbard shared third at 15 under, while amateur Jackson Koivun finished in a tie for fifth with Chris Kirk and Aaron Rai.
Kirk’s strong finish moved him from 73rd to 61st in the FedExCup standings, securing his place in the playoffs which begin next week at the St. Jude Championship.
South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout closed out with a final-round 63 to finish on one under par for the tournament, settling for a share of 62nd place.
